Botanical name: Fraxinus Americana




  • Distribution: Canada and Northern USA


  • Characteristics: Heartwood varies from light brown to reddish-brown, Sapwood is white. Density 670 Kg/M3 when dried.


  • Working qualities: Saws and machines easily and takes a good finish and responds well to steam bending. It is perishable and unsuitable for use out doors unless treated..


  • Uses: Used traditionally in applications where elasticity and toughness is required – ski’s, tool handles, vehicle bodies and baseball bats, but also used for interior joinery, cabinets and furniture.
