STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER

Origin and use: Crossing the Bulldog with the Old English Terrier (a breed that is now extinct), a fighting dog for baiting bulls and bears was bred. When bullfighting was prohibited the dogs were secretly used to fight each other.
Height: 35 to 41 cm
Weight: 13 to 17 kg
Temperament: affectionate, calm, courageous, intelligent, tenacious, good with children
Useful information: The Staffy needs a good amount of exercise. Daily brushing of the coat is essential to remove dead hair and to keep it shiny. The eyes need regular cleaning with cotton wool balls soaked in tepid water that has been boiled. Unless the dog has the opportunity to wear them down itself the nails must be clipped.
