Origin and use: In Newfoundland fishermen used them to help drag nets ashore and to draw carts and sleighs.

Weight: dog 63 to 68 kg, bitch 50 to 55 kg
Temperament: calm, trustworthy, self-confident, gentle, courageous
Useful information: With its oily undercoat that keeps water well away from the skin the Newfie is a real water dog that needs to run and swim at will. They do not like heat.
