Origin and use: In the Netherlands this dog was used as a watch-dog, especially by bargemen.

Temperament: lively, good watch-dog, one-man dog, distrustful of strangers, yappy
Useful information: The double coat needs a daily rub-down with a rigid, short-bristled brush. After brushing, comb the hair against the grain to air the coat. Untangle knots with a metal comb. Bath the dog two or three times per year.
