DACHSHUND

Origin and use: In Germany these dogs were used to hunt badgers.
Height: not specified
Weight: depending on variety from 4.5 to 11.25 kg
Temperament: intelligent, happy, affectionate, good watch-dog, disobedient, self-willed, would rather try to train the owner than be trained
Useful information: Dachshunds are big eaters and tend to become overweight. Exercise and attention to diet is essential. Check for hereditary eye problems such as atypic pannus.
Note: There are three varieties, namely the Smooth, Long-Haired and Wire-haired in two sizes, the Miniature and the Standard, but all share the same characteristics.
