AIREDALE TERRIER

Origin and use: The Airedale was developed in the valley of the River Aire, Yorkshire, England around 1850. The largest of the Terriers this one does not easily go to ground but was used for hunting, especially otters.
Weight: not specified
Height: dog 58 to 61 cm, bitch 56 to 58 cm
Temperament: amenable to training, affectionate, active.
Useful information: If the Airedale is kept indoors it could show a tendency to eczema so its skin should be regularly examined. The dog adapts well to any climate, is rarely ill but does show a tendency to gastro-enteritis. Dead hair should be removed regularly with the fingers or a comb. They quickly take on the appearance of a woolly bear cub if this is neglected.
